Gambling and Trading mode

Following requests of some of our members and the new basic betfair commission applied of 6.5% (instead of 5%) since 1 February, we have made some changes in order to satisfy the majority of you and also to ensure the sustainability of the website in order to offer you a service matching your main expectations.

During this week (07 to 13 April 2014), the two commission systems (Gambling and Trading mode) will be installed. You can choose the mode that suits you best according to your way of betting or to perform trading. You can switch from one mode to the other from the bet slip.

However the commission mode of a market will be necessarily set by the mode chosen when placing the first bet on that same market. If you have placed a bet in a mode on a certain market, it is not possible to switch to the other mode on that same market. Check the commission rates on each mode on our page “Commissions”.

Gambling mode conforms to the current system with an adjustment of the various levels of generated points. The trading mode will allow our members to use strategies of “Scalping” or “Trading offplay”.

Example 1 : Gambling mode more beneficial!
You are at level 3, and you place a bet on selection A €100 at odds of @2.00.

In Gambling (commission levied on each winning bets):
– Profit/Loss net If selection A winning = + €94 (€100 – 6%)
– Profit/loss net if selection A losing = -€100 (-€100 + 0%)

In Trading (commission levied on the gross PL of a market):
– Profit/Loss net If selecting A winning = + €94 (€100 – 6%)
– Profit/loss net if selection A losing = € -102.70 (€-100 + 2.7%)

Gambling is more advantageous than the trading mode in this first example.

Example 2 : Trading mode more beneficial!
You are at level 4 and you place 2 orders on the same market, a back on selection A €200 at odds of @2.00 (potential gain €200 & potential loss – €200 and a lay also on selection A €190 at odds of @1.50 (potential profit €190 & potential loss – €95).)

In Gambling (commission levied on each winning bets):
-Profit/Loss net If selecting A winning = + €94 or €200 (the back profit) – €95 (loss of the lay) – €11 of commission (€ 200 x 5.5%)
-Profit/loss net if selection A losing = -20.45€ € 190 (profit of the lay) – €200 (loss of the back) – €10.45 of commission (€190 x 5.5%)

In Trading (commission levied on the gross PL of a market):
-Profit/Loss net If selecting A winning = € 99.23 is a positive result of the traded market from €105 (€200 – €95) – € 5.77 commission on the profit (€ 105 x 5.5%)
-Profit/loss net if selection A losing = -10.26€ is a negative result of the traded market of € 10 (- €200 + €190) – €0.26 of commission on the loss (€-10 x 2.6%)

Trading is more beneficial than the Gambling mode in this example.
